Terms of Use

These terms set out the conditions for using Sober Island ("the App"). By downloading or using the App, you are deemed to have agreed to these terms.

1. Important: alcohol withdrawal warning

Heavy drinkers who suddenly stop drinking can experience life-threatening withdrawal symptoms, including tremors, sweating, anxiety, insomnia, and rarely delirium tremens (impaired consciousness, hallucinations). If you drink heavily every day, you must consult a physician before starting to quit. The App is a self-help tool and is not a substitute for treatment of alcohol use disorder.

2. Not medical advice

The App is an information app intended to support sobriety habits. It is not intended to provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Please consult a healthcare professional for any health-related decisions.

3. Not recommended for

The App is not recommended for the following people:

  • Anyone under the legal drinking age (20 in Japan)
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals
  • Anyone diagnosed with alcohol use disorder, or with a heavy daily drinking habit (consult a doctor first)
  • Anyone with chronic conditions or taking medication

4. User responsibility

The developer assumes no liability for any damages (including health effects, withdrawal symptoms, data loss, etc.) arising from use of the App.

5. Purchases

v1.0 of the App offers no in-app purchases at all. Every feature is available for free. The App also does not offer subscription pricing. If a future version introduces purchases, these terms will be revised and the change will be announced inside the App.

6. Intellectual property

All trademarks, copyrights, and design rights related to the App belong to the developer or its licensors.

7. Prohibited conduct

The following are prohibited:

  • Decompiling or modifying the App
  • Using the App to provide medical services or paid advice to third parties
  • Using the App for self-diagnosis or self-treatment of alcohol use disorder
  • Other actions that violate laws or public order

8. Service changes / termination

The developer may change, add to, or terminate the App without notice.

9. Changes to these terms

These terms may be revised without notice. Continued use of the App after a revision is deemed agreement to the revised terms.

10. Governing law / jurisdiction

These terms and any disputes arising from use of the App are governed by the laws of Japan, with the Tokyo District Court as the court of exclusive agreed jurisdiction.
